Default apps for Siri.

I wouldn’t call myself the biggest fan of digital assistants. I use Siri rarely and my interaction with the Google counterpart is usually just to prove my point that it understands my Greek accent much better. However, digital assistants are not the usual trend that time will wash away. Big companies invest a lot of time and money on them and once AI reaches a certain point, consumers will probably find digital assistants as useful as J.A.R.V.I.S. is for Tony Stark.

Free iOS weather web app.

Posted on August 24, 2012 in Software

I think there are more than enough weather apps for iOS. But it turns out that it doesn’t really matter what I think, since every month there is going to be another developer to pop a new app with a good looking interface and well designed icons. Practically they all show the same information because most of them pull weather data from the same source. And that’s probably my main reason for reverting to Apple’s preinstalled weather app after a few weeks of playing with any new app.

This time though there is a new option that caught my attention and it’s not because of the information that it shows. It’s for the way it works! If you don’t already know it, Sun is a stunning weather web app developed specifically for iOS devices. Even though the information that it feeds you is the same as every other weather app, it has a very clean and minimal interface that runs on Safari and supports pinch and swipe gestures. Sun packs some extremely interesting and inspiring code and I think you should definitely give it a try just to see what web apps are capable of.

Why I don’t like folders on my iPhone.

It’s in our nature to ask for what we don’t have and whine about it when we get it. I believe that’s the case here and I’m referring to how much I thought I needed the folders feature on my iPhone and now that I have them I stopped using them. Last night when I plugged my iPhone to my Mac I noticed that it has less than a gigabyte of free space! Really? I’m using 8, maybe 10 apps every day and I have zero music and videos. How can I possibly run out of space?
