My macOS must have apps revisited.

One of the most satisfying feelings for someone who spends more than ten hours a day in front of his Mac, is the moment when you discover a new app that completes one more missing piece from the puzzle of your daily workflow. A small app for Facebook that saves you a few seconds from re-opening your browser just to use Messenger, or a very simple menubar app that prevents your mac from firing that damn screensaver while you’re reading an ebook and forcing you to retype that long password again! These are the kind of apps I’m looking for and I’m always up for trying something new.

Ever since I got my first Mac back in 2001, hunting down good software became one of my hobbies. I still remember the long discussions I’ve had with friends for all kinds of apps. These discussions, in the era of the Mac App Store happen more often. Probably because now you’re trying to dig out the hidden gems among the long list of crappy results. That’s why a few years ago I decided to create a public list on Wunderlist with all my favourite apps. At the time there was a whole page with public lists for all sorts of topics. Unfortunately it seems that Wunderlist decided to discontinue that feature, which gave me a reason to recreate the apps list on my blog!

My plan is to maintain a list of my absolute must-have apps, the ones that I would install on my Mac before macOS finishes its installation (ok that’s not possible, but you get my point!). Hopefully this can be a great starting point for new Mac users or even help some experts to find something they didn’t know. I hope you find it useful. Enjoy.
