Sirmione Afternoon

In my recent road trip around North Italy, I made a stop to a place called Sirmione. It was so beautiful that I almost drained my iPhone’s battery from shooting photos and videos! One of them even made its way as a wallpaper to my iPhone’s lock screen. I’m quite picky when it comes to wallpapers but I used Halide to shoot this in RAW and with a bit of tweaking in Lightroom, the result was exactly what I wanted.

There have been times when I was tasked to design something that didn’t fit my style and in some cases, I didn’t feel like doing. Saying no may always be an option, but not necessarily the best one. Surprisingly I discovered that by taking on these tasks, the feeling of satisfaction I got after completing them was 10 times better than doing designs within my comfort zone. However, the first couple of times this happened, I noticed the increased struggle of coming up with new ideas. A very stressful situation that I managed to overcome by shifting my mindset a bit.

Default apps for Siri.

I wouldn’t call myself the biggest fan of digital assistants. I use Siri rarely and my interaction with the Google counterpart is usually just to prove my point that it understands my Greek accent much better. However, digital assistants are not the usual trend that time will wash away. Big companies invest a lot of time and money on them and once AI reaches a certain point, consumers will probably find digital assistants as useful as J.A.R.V.I.S. is for Tony Stark.

Doist retreat 2017

With remote working becoming mainstream, company retreats have also become a great way for teams to get to know each other and have fun. After long planning and anticipation, Doist had its third company retreat, in a city that a few years ago used to be called home: Athens. Our team has grown significantly and Greece seemed to be the perfect backdrop for a group gathering. Thousands of years of history and culture alongside the continuous sunshine made Greece one of the best destinations for a team bonding activity.

My macOS must have apps revisited.

Posted on January 16, 2017 in Software

One of the most satisfying feelings for someone who spends more than ten hours a day in front of his Mac, is the moment when you discover a new app that completes one more missing piece from the puzzle of your daily workflow. A small app for Facebook that saves you a few seconds from re-opening your browser just to use Messenger, or a very simple menubar app that prevents your mac from firing that damn screensaver while you’re reading an ebook and forcing you to retype that long password again! These are the kind of apps I’m looking for and I’m always up for trying something new.

I’ve been an Apple fan for a very long time and I understand that when a product is as popular as the MacBook Pro, it becomes almost impossible to satisfy everyone 100%. But seriously though… Was it really THAT hard for the Apple geniuses to come up with something like this instead of the gazillion dongles sold separately? For a company that’s being praised for its amazing design choices, this dongle-everything trend feels like a temporary work around… and a quite expensive one!

At the end of the day, our life boils down to two choices: Dare to try or fear to fail.
